The FM table top is from two extraordinary book matched planks of old growth California bay laurel. It combines a gently curved length with a “live edged” gap in the center. The sapwood in the center of the table displays the curved trunk which was cut to produce the planks. That curve of the tree created considerable internal stress in the planks, which had to be jointed several times during the construction process as the stresses were gradually relieved. The base is dyed black walnut.
